Dan Matthewman

Dan is a Chartered Town Planner and a member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives with both public and private sector experience. He joined De Pol Associates in 2015 having worked for commercial law firm DLA Piper, Warrington Borough Council, National Park Authorities and the Environment Agency.

Dan is particularly experienced in dealing with a range of contentious planning matters and planning law, including green belt proposals and housing applications, development in flood risk zones and large scale agricultural and industrial schemes. Since joining the practice Dan has focussed on applying his skills in the environment, leisure and industry sectors which has included preparing and managing applications for theme park expansions, hotel developments and new waste processing sites.

He has previously advised on nationally significant infrastructure projects such as a proposed biomass power station in Cumbria and the extension of a hazardous landfill site in Lancashire. Dan also handles many of our instructions relating to enforcement cases and Lawful Use or Development certificate applications, using his legal background to excellent effect.

Dan is a strong strategist with an excellent track record at appeal which includes giving evidence as a professional witness at public inquires, in court and injunctive proceedings. He also uses his national park authority experience to undertake development options appraisals prior to the disposal of large estates in national parks and Areas of Outstanding National Beauty.

Dan is a member of the Town and Country Planning Association and the National Association of Planning Enforcement. He also participates in the RTPI’s North West Planners Network.
